Cuban Black Beans
Geri Riley is from Cuba, and the Spanish family tradition was that on Noches Buena (Christmas Eve), the menu consisted of pork roast, black beans and rice, avocado and lettuce salad, yuca...and nugat (candy, consisting of caramels, figs, nuts, honey and dates--tasting like a fruitcake). A popular beverage was Cidra, made of apples, with a cider-and-champagne taste.--LaPorte Herald-Argus, December 4, 1990
